Your sleep physician will most likely schedule a sleep study, since it is the only way to diagnose Sleep Apnea.
Sleep Study is generally conducted either at the hospital / at your home, where multiple electrodes, belts and video camera are used to monitor your vital parameters, your breathing efforts and your sleep pattern. The entire study takes about 6-7 hours during which period, Sleep technologists constantly monitor you from another room.
Your sleep physician will analyse the data from the study and arrive at the severity of your sleep apnea, measured in terms of AHI.
The results from your sleep study will help your sleep physician determine how to treat your sleep apnea. There are multiple treatment options available depending on the severity, like nasal strips, dilators, oral devices, air pressure devices like the CPAP and in some cases, surgery.
